The R5 Storytelling Model Frequently Ask
About
- 01R5 is a simple, 5-step system that helps people communicate in a way that leads to action—not just understanding. It teaches you how to: Understand your audience Use real experiences Deliver clear, relevant messages Drive decisions and behavior R5 isn’t about telling better stories. It’s about getting people to act on what you say.
- 02Most communication doesn’t change behavior. People: Hear the message Understand the message Agree with the message And still don’t act. That’s because behavior change requires more than information. It requires relevance, belief, clarity, and a clear path to action. R5 is designed to do exactly that.
- 03
- 04Yes. R5 aligns with established behavior change research, including: Motivation, capability, and opportunity (COM-B Model) How people process messages (Elaboration Likelihood Model) The power of storytelling to influence beliefs (Narrative Transportation) Learning through observation and modeling (Social Cognitive Theory) R5 does not replace these models. It translates them into a usable system.
- 05We measure R5 at four levels: Engagement – Did people connect with the message? Understanding – Did they learn the framework? Behavior – Did they change how they communicate? Results – Did outcomes improve? Most trainings stop at engagement. R5 is designed to measure behavior. We are actively building long-term measurement systems to track sustained impact over time.

- 07R5 begins with Recognize, which requires understanding the audience’s context, needs, and perspective before communicating. This helps prevent: Mislabeling behavior as “disrespect” Applying inconsistent expectations Communicating based on assumptions instead of reality R5 doesn’t remove bias automatically. But it creates a structured opportunity to interrupt it.

- 10That is the goal—and the expectation. Early use shows improvements in: Clarity Engagement Alignment Based on behavior science, when communication: Aligns with motivation Is clearly understood Builds belief Includes action It increases the likelihood of behavior change. We are continuing to measure long-term impact to connect R5 directly to outcomes.
